Ohio firefighters give more than $3,000 to cancer charity

Monroe, Ohio's Firefighters Local 3824 has recently completed their second annual fundraiser for breast cancer, raising over $3,000 for the Cincinnati affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, according to MiddletownJournal.com.

The firefighter's union kicked off their fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Monroe homecoming football game by selling pink t-shirts and pink bracelets to raise money and spread breast cancer awareness. The firefighters walked around flea markets and grocery stores to collect money and also enlisted the help of local businesses for donations.

The president of Firefighters Local 3824, Matt Grubbs, presented a check to the Susan G. Komen Foundation Greater Cincinnati affiliate at the December 14 Monroe city council meeting. Much of the proceeds will go to local Ohio breast cancer organizations with a portion going to the Komen national budget.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the largest breast cancer organization in the world. The charity has invested more than $1.5 billion since its inception in 1982, according to the organization's website.
